"O you who believe! Keep your duty to Allaah and fear Him, Say a word that is straight to the point; your actions will be rectified for you and your sins will be forgiven. And whosoever obeys Allaah and His Messenger, then he has indeed achieved a great achievement."

Soortul - Ahzaab 33:70 - 71

And an individual is in need of his good deeds and his good deeds are not a burden to be distributed to the people, and the Prophet (sallallahu alaihe wa-sallam) said: "Do you know who is a Muflis? The Muflis is he who comes on the Day of Judgement with Salaat, Zakaar, Siyaam, Hajj but (he would find himself bankrupt on that day as he would have exhausted his funds of virtues) since he hurled abuses upon others, brought calumny against others and unlawfully consumed the wealth of others and shed the blood of others and beat others, and his virtues would be credited to the account of one (who suffered at his hand). And if his good deeds fall short to clear the account, then his sins would be entered in (his account) and he would be thrown in the Hell-Fire."

Allah commands His Messenger Muhammad to invite the people to Allah with Hikmah (wisdom). Ibn Jarir said: "That is what was revealed to him from the Book and the Sunnah."

His command of "fair preaching" means with exhortation and stories of the events that happened to people mentioned in the Qur'an, (At-Tabari 17:321) which he is to tell them about in order to warn them of the punishment of Allah.
